Drink Your Water

Weight-in: 226.4 lbs

I know that you're supposed to drink a certain amount of water every day. Lately though I've been reading how if you do not drink enough, your body thinks there is a drought and actually retains water.

I've often been guilty of not drinking enough so yesterday I made an attempt to drink more. In fact I drank probably 80 ounces throughout the day. I was peeing all day long. You'd think that I might actually weigh more today taking in all that water. Guess what? I'm down almost two pounds from yesterdays weigh-in. Coincidence? I don't think so. I don't think it's possible to lose 2 pounds of fat or muscle in a day, so it must have been water retention.

It seems weird to think you need to drink MORE in order to lose, but it seems that its true. In addition to getting rid of retained water, drinking the correct amount also makes your metabolism work more efficiently and therefor you also burn more calories when you work out. That's what I've read anyway.

This whole thing just shows me first hand that it really is so important to drink lots of water, every day. From now on I'll be trying to do just that. I suggest to everyone, weather they're trying to lose weight or not to do the same.

The weird thing about drinking more water is once your body gets used to it you actually get dehydrated much more easily. At work I drink a lot of water (in upwards of a gallon), but when I get home I don't drink nearly as much, and I find that later in the evening my pee is very dark, as my body hasn't tried to hold onto any water, and I haven't given it any in a few hours. So you gotta drink water all throughout the day, too.

What do you guys think about those little packets to give your water flavor? I drink about 60-80 ounches a day (should be more, true), but I put this sugar-free Hawaaian punch thing in there, it's like 5 calories.

I have some of that and i use it occasionally but not often at all.

It's fake sugar and I really don't think putting a lot of it in your body it good for you. Especially 80 "ounches" of it :)

I drink somewhere around 64-80 oz per day, and like geoff said, I get dehydrated easier too- however it sure makes me suck down more water!

Water is the essence of life. Love it.

As for the packets, I have been known to binge on the Crystal Light Sunrise (tastes like Tang). I've found a couple of things with that: I drink more water when those are in, I feel over-sweetened after I drink from it rather than refreshed, and I often start to feel like I'm getting hyper-hydrated. So the jury is still out on that one.

I notice the water retaining on the weekends. I usually drink anywhere from 150-175 ounces of water a day...and on the weekends I sometimes only get maybe 64. Yeah my body doesnt like that much!
